Unlike many French wine-producing regions, wines from Alsace are named after the grape from
which they are made instead of the village or vineyard in which they were produced. In total there are seven different grape
varieties permitted to grow in Alsace: Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Muscat d’Alsace, Tokay, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer,
and Pinot Noir.
